Univision, UniMás and Galavisión now available on YouTube TV

Univision, UniMás and Galavisión all have a new home in YouTube TV. The three biggest Spanish-language channels account for a combined 55 share of Spanish-language programming. Now, YouTube TV subscribers will have that access.

Univision Communications is the leading Spanish-language media and content company in the United States. To boot, the three aforementioned channels provide an array of content for Spanish speakers.

Univision Programming Offerings

The growing Spanish-language media market now leaks into the streaming world.

Moreover, the Spanish-language media conglomerate provides differing content for viewers.

For one, Univision and UniMás provide local news. With YouTube TV allowing for location-specific news coverage, a number of subscribers will now have Spanish-language news. Specifically, those in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago and others will have local Spanish-language news through Univision and UniMás.

“This is an important step to ensure that our audience has access to our leading Spanish-language news, sports and entertainment wherever they consume content,” said Hamed Nasseri, V.P. of Content Distribution at Univision.

Furthermore, here is some more detailed information on the three channels coming to YouTube TV.

Univision: The No. 1 Spanish-language network for the last 29 seasons. Content includes news programming, shows, primetime entertainment and live soccer matches.
UniMás: Reality TV shows and weekend movie blocks. Additionally, there are telenovelas, drama series, sitcoms and sports.
Galavisión: The Spanish-language destination for the modern Hispanic family. Therefore, the company gears this content towards family-friendly cable entertainment.

On YouTube TV’s side of the deal, the subscription service is aiming to expand its base membership. The Spanish-language side of YouTube TV may have been lacking. However, this acquisition brings in the principle provider of Spanish-speaking audiences ages 18 to 49.

YouTube TV will provide access to Univision’s app. Also, it will carry the channels’ video-on-demand (VOD) content at launch.

Soccer Content

Although there will be live soccer matches through the aforementioned channels, there is one drawback.

Univision Communications did not mention TUDN as one of the channels going to TV. Therefore, the principle sports provider for the Spanish-language group will remain off YouTube TV’s channel list.

Consequently, much of the soccer content provided will be unavailable. However, there are still games available through the three channels. Univision carries significant games from throughout European soccer and other competitions from around the world.

For example, the Univision channel will feature a number of games from the MLS Playoffs in late 2021.

Regardless, TUDN’s absence signals a significant loss in overall sports coverage with Spanish-language broadcasts. All of the Univision channels (including TUDN) are available on rival streaming service fuboTV.
