England Nation Team return to ITV in UK
ITV has secured the rights to show England men’s football team matches from 2024 to 2028, the broadcaster announced today. The deal with UEFA will see ITV air all of England’s European Qualifiers, UEFA Nations League games, and friendlies between major tournaments over the next World Cup and European Championship cycles.
The agreement marks ITV’s return as the free-to-air home of the England national team, after Channel 4 held the rights from 2018-2022. At least 40 matches – around 10 per season – will be broadcast on ITV under the new contract, starting with the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. ITV Director of Sport Niall Sloane said: “We’re delighted to bring the England men’s team back to ITV, which keeps coverage of their progress between major tournaments on free to air television. We have an experienced team here who are looking forward to bringing viewers all the action and insight from England’s qualification campaigns in the coming years.”
The agreement has been welcomed by England fans eager to follow the team’s efforts to reach upcoming major tournaments. After the disappointment of the 2022 World Cup, manager Gareth Southgate will target success in Euro 2024 and beyond. With emerging young talents like Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham coming through, the future looks bright for the Three Lions. ITV’s presentation team for the England games is set to be led by established, respected commentators like Sam Matterface, Clive Tyldesley and Joe Speight. They will be joined by former England players and managers as pundits, with the likes of Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright providing analysis and insight.
