MP & Silva win Premiership Middle East Rights
MP & SILVA BEAT OUT ABU DHABI & AL JAZEERA
While most expected it to be a battle between Abu Dhabi Media and Al Jazeera, it was TV sports rights firm MP & Silva that came out victorious for Premier League rights in 23 Middle East countries. The total cost of the rights was not released but a MP & Silva spokesman was quoted as saying that the price was in the neighborhood of the last 3-year deal which was won by Abu Dhabi Media and was worth around $300 million.
The rights are for 3 seasons starting in the 2013-14 Premier League and covers all 380 matches per season. Not being a broadcast company themselves, MP & Silva will sublicense the rights to others – most likely Abu Dhabi and Al Jazeera. The Premier League still has to approve any sublicensing deals.
