The 4th round of matches have barely started but the US is already talking about “must win” situations. There really is little room for error when 10 matches decide berth to the World Cup. USA simply hasn’t clicked under Klinsman’s rule and anything but a win on home soil on Friday night will sound the alarm bells. As for USA’s trip to Mexico on Tuesday, expectations are low which could be a good thing for the US. Mexico’s superiority in the Azteca is expected but could prove a dagger in Klinsman’s career if Friday is a disappointment for the US.

It’s hard to separate Honduras, Costa Rica and Jamaica as far as strength at the moment with Panama just falling a bit short of this group. Honduras’ strength comes from its home field and they get the ultimate test when they host Mexico Friday afternoon. Meantime, Jamaica will try to continue their excellent form at home to Panama where anything but a home win will be a disappointment for the hosts. On Tuesday, while the 2 perennial powerhouses square off at the Azteca, much of the fortunes of the others will be decided. The Costa Rica v Jamaica match will surely be important in the long run as far who ultimately qualifies for Brazil. In the other match on Tuesday, its a real test of Honduras’ strength away from home while Panama still have enough quality to play spoiler for any of the other teams. CONCACAF has shown great stride in the quality of matches compared to years prior. It’s worth checking out all of the matches as you never know who will spring the next surprise.

Reminder, the top 3 qualify for Brazil 2014. The 4th placed team will playoff with the winner of the Oceania qualifiers (we should know if its New Zealand as early as Friday morning).
